Warlock DPS Troubles....

Postby Fireren » View Fireren's OpenRaid characters » Wed Jul 04, 2012 6:26 pm

I've been playing the game for years and years now and have recently rejoined after a gap of about 10months, so I instantly geared up as much as possible , farmed gold for enchants and gems etc.

I'm currently say on an ilvl of 391 but yet I find myself constantly trailing in the dps tables :/ My chosen DPS spec is Demonology as I do a load of grinding and soloing and Felguard is handy.

My gear is : http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/character/a ... sis/simple (sorry if i accidentally log out whilst pvp geared)

And my rotation is something along these lines:

For Single Target - Boss Fights

Bane of Doom
Curse of Elements
Corruption
Soulburn+Soul Fire (Macro'd together)
Demon Form, Immolation Aura, Demon Leap
Immolate
Hand of Gul'dan
Shadow Bolt (use until I refresh Dots) (also Macro'd with Synapse Strings)
Incinerate (Only if Molten Core is up)
And use Doom guard whenever Hero is popped.

Single Target Trash is similar - Except Bane of Agony instead of Doom.

So this seems to set me up well, but then quickly goes downhill after an initial peak, I find that I just get back to using shadow bolt over and over until something needs refreshing, Self buffed my DPS on a dummy is ~24k but I've seen others hit ~32k+

Also.....I'm a clicker...I cant seem to get my head around setting up good keybinds to use single handed whilst also moving etc.

Please , Any Advice, However critical it may be, just lay it on me.

I play a Destruction lock and find the information on icy-veins.com to be very helpful. All of the class/spec guides are great really. I especially like the charts on haste plateaus that break down exactly what you need to take into consideration. They also not only show BiS gear, but show a long list of best to least helpful items so you can follow your upgrades as you gear up.

As someone who was not a PC gamer before WoW, I was hesitant to use keybinds at first, too. I was used to a console controller. So to bridge that gap, I got a gaming keypad. I've been using Razor's Fang for years, and there are several models to choose from these days.

Keypads are great because it's more tactile than a regular keyboard and easier to learn and remember what the keys are bound to. Not having to click on the action bars frees up the mouse to move the character and the camera angle at the same time as using abilities. (I use the keypad with my left hand and the mouse with my right.) Just switching from clicking to keybinds will boost your dps.

As Kaliani said, Icy Veins is a great resource: http://www.icy-veins.com/demonology-warlock-pve-guide

Googling "warlock demonology 4.3" will bring up lots of other guides.

Good luck!

Hi, I took a look at your Armory and thought I'd give you a few basic pointers.
You're currently in PvP-gear, so I don't what kind of gear you're using or whether it's enchanted/gemmed/reforged, but these are all important, make sure you don't neglect them.
Even though you're in PvP-gear, I'm assuming you're using your current Demo-specc for raiding.

-If you're not taking the Bane-talent, don't use Shadow Bolt as your filler, use Incinerate instead.
-Place 2 points in the Ancient Grimoire-talent.
-Shadowflame is missing from your list , it stands for a large portion of you overall damage for a boss fight, make sure to cast it on CD
-Make sure to pre-cast Incinerate before you enter combat, to get the Shadow and Flame-debuff on the boss ASAP.
-Use your first Soulburn for pet-swapping instead of Soul Fire (start off with Felguard, use Felstorm and swap to Felhunter once it ends).
-Pop Metamorphosis and Demon Soul before petswapping and applying DOTs.
-If you have other instants to cast while running into melee range e.g. Corruption, Curse of the Elements, Bane of Doom, prioritize them over Demon Leap.
-Doomguard does not benefit from Heroism/Bloodlust, but it does benefit from your own haste-, crit-. mastery- and hit rating, also intellect.
-Try to keep your movement to a minimum.
-Remember to use a Volcanic Potion before entering combat and one during combat.
-Consider the possibility of spending a few hours to practice using keybindings instead of clicking your skills, it's worth it.

Keep in mind, these are just some personal pointers and not a complete list of what to do as Demonology. You should check out various forums for more comprehensive information about the specc and everything around it.

well, if you want to do above average demo dps you better learn how to use keybinds. download an addon called "bindpad" when you activate it get in your game and type "/bp + <enter>". then put your spells in there and set each to a key.

also i would highly suggest a 10+ button mouse for a warlock bc you will have about 13-14 abilities to cast during an average fight.

doesnt look like you are pet swapping at the start. check out elitist jerks guide - you are supposed to start with felgaurd, and after you cast demon soul: felgaurd, u then cast souburn + summon felhunter (use a macro but make sure you stagger step when hitting this macro, similar to a insta soulfire macro.

also, in your current gear you are quite a bit under hit cap. your best bet is reading elitist jerks guide to demo. icy veins is not good for warlocks...

and as always if you want more information and really want a tutorial i am always online in the evenings.

good luck and may the souls of the dead be with you

I play affliction unless I absolutely have to change - saurfang for instance. Demo is probably the hardest spec to play without any dedicated addons for a couple reasons. People say aff is hard dotwatching but after a while you get a rythm and know when things need refreshing which allows you to time your movement. Demo is all about cd timing and procs. Procs are hard to watch so get an addon - maybe procula or icehud. Also get in there with pots and flasks and food. They not so expensive now you cant afford to be buffed every fight and use 2 pots, although if its a wipe maybe just one. Time your meta to coincide with ds and use ds first especially if you have the felguard out although I think felhound is better dps for single target.

Watch some videos on youtube - read elitest jerks and figure out where you damage really comes from. And go raid finder to practice, even if you cant loot dummies are bad - even hc bosses are better to make you realise where you can improve.

I also play with a G13, but just be careful, after using these for so long now I cannot play MMO style games without one :(

Seriously. Bright side, that dependence pretty much cured my itch to buy a laptop for WoW :D

I ONLY use it for WoW and Skyrim, though. I've tried, but I'm too used to WASD/1234 for shooters.
